In this beautiful palace of Bucaco I was many times before. It lies 2 km from the Baths of Luso (central Portugal) on the top of a hill that serves as a nature park called "The Enchanted Forest". Currently the Palace is a 5 star hotel with 62 rooms with bathroom, telephone, TV, AC, restaurant, bars, lounges, chapel, and gardens, lovely gardens that can be visited by anyone in the imposing altar nature (105 has walled) where this former Carmelite monastery is now a hotel. I have to say that I never stayed there, but if you have visited many times at different times of the year, and although it is now a bit neglected it has a mosaic in one of its balconies and striking architecture. Built in the late 19th century neo-Manueline style, this palace represented in the cultural context època nationalist ideology and romanticism. The large predominantly blue tiles adorning the hallways of the large balconies are Jorge Colaço and paintings of the palace of the famous artist Antonio Ramalho.
If you´re in Lisbon, don´t miss this hotel. For a 3-night romantic package, I paid € 375. This came with a closed garage and fresh fruit everyday in the afternoon delivered to my room. It also included a beautiful view of the Castle of Sao Jorge, free solarium use, a sauna, and a daily newspaper. Subway and bus stops are located right outside of the hotel. I could not have asked for more!
The Hotel Algarve Casino is situated on the seafront of the Playa de Rocha and a 5 star establishment. It is the most traditional hotel in Algarve, has been open since 1935, and was the first casino hotel in the area (of course, now it is completely renovated). It has almost 200 rooms, some suites and conference rooms, business center, lobby bar, three restaurants (one international, one buffet and other for snacks), outdoor pool, gym, tennis court, etc. . At the Casino you can find a slot machine room and traditional table and card games (such as roulette, blackjack, poker ...). There is also live entertainment at night.
Seteais Palace was built in the late eighteenth century for Daniel Gildemeester, Dutch Consul in Portugal. The palace was extended in the early nineteenth century when it belonged to Dom Diogo de Meneses Vito Joseph Noronha Coutinho, Marquis of Marialva. He built the left wing of the palace and its majestic arch (in 1802) in honor of the visit of Dom João VI, Prince Regent, and Queen Carlota Joaquina. It's a stately neo-classical palace built by the architect José da Costa e Silva. The interior has undergone several restorations has a room frescoed with mythological motifs. The palace gardens are simply stunning, well kept and beautiful. From the garden overlooking the main facade is Pena Palace and the Castle above the mountain and in the garden on the other side of the palace there is a nice view of the surroundings, Palace Monsterrate and sea. Very, very nice. Today it is a fabulous 5 star hotel (one of the best in Portugal) belonging to the Tivoli Portuguese hotel chain, but it is being completely renovated.
A 4-star hotel located in the Marquis of Pombal Square. It was refurbished in 2004, and it's a comfortable hotel located in the centre, but not right in the busiest part of the city. The metro (line 1) is right on the doorstep, and there are plenty of buses. In fact, from the airport, the number 22 bus leaves you right at the hotel. The rooms and bathrooms aren't too big, but they're more than adequate for a city hotel. The breakfast buffet is pretty good. It's right at the start of the Eduardo VII park.
An exceptional hotel in the Algarve, uniting modern luxury with classic Portuguese tile. It's a 5-star hotel with direct access to the beach of San Rafael, which is one of the most beautiful in the area. You'll want for nothing - great breakfasts, and beautiful decor. In the room, which comes with a balcony, you have everything you need to make your stay perfect - a bathroom with tub and shower, hairdryer, amenities, cable TV, telephone, safe, minibar, etc. It is certainly a great choice to stay in this touristy part of Portugal.
The hotel is about a 15-20 minute walk from the centre of Porto, but nearby is a metro stop which drops you at the centre. It is very clean, and the rooms are spacious. The smoking rooms have a large terrace - maybe a bit too big, it would have been better to have more space in the rooms instead. Ask for a room overlooking the city centre; the view on the other side is far from pretty. There's free wifi throughout the hotel, although in some rooms the signal is very weak. The breakfast is good - all the food is great - and for 3 euros, you can eat it in your room. The staff are friendly and helpful if you have any questions, and although most of the area nearby has paid parking, there's a street next to the hotel without any parking meters. Good value.
I stayed at this amazing hotel during one of my visits to the city of Lisbon. It is ideal to relax and unwind in the spa while feeling like a prince in a nineteenth century palace, especially at breakfast, in that wonderful salonesde time. The gardens are classified as National Monument and have views of the river Tagus and April 25 Bridge.
This hotel is in the heart of the Portuguese wine region Douro River. Vintage House is the harmonious result of an elegant and 100 year old site with all modern comforts. The hotel has an "Academy of Wine" which includes courses, tastings and winery tours. Vintage House has 37 rooms and 6 suites with terraces overlooking the Douro River. All are decorated differently. A nice pool on the river, a beautiful restaurant with a traditional calm menu, intimate atmosphere and personal attention, make a stay at Vintage House hard to forget.
Looking for a hotel in Funchal, with a rooftop pool surrounded by a large solarium with sea views, and a bar? You've found it! There's nothing better than taking a dip, then enjoying the view with a good martini in your hand. The Four Views Monumental Hotel offers rooms and apartments. The latter are huge. Mine had tables outside on the terrace, as well as a sofa bed, kitchen, and two huge TV screens.
The Vine Hotel is next level wonderful. Its not surprising that in 2013, it was named World's Leading Design Hotel. Its 79 rooms are tastefully furnished, each in its own way. I stayed in 202, with a huge massage waterfall, shower, and bath. The beds are very large and comfortable, with lights operated from them by an electrical panel, like the blinds. But, apart from the rooms, The Vine offers a stunning rooftop pool overlooking Funchal. In fact, it has two pools, one normal, and one with whirlpool jets. The latter is ideal for sunset dipped to 24 degrees. The hotel also has a small, closed spa (enough to relax for a while), gym, dining area, and separate restaurant. If money is no object, treat yourself by staying in the historic center of Madeira. It's so good, you won't want to leave to go sightseeing.
We had excellent service at this hotel, starting with the welcome glass of port. The friendly staff went out of their way to help us in any way possible. The price isn't bad for a 5* hotel. We spent three nights here. On the first day we arrived at noon, and went for a walk around the area. On the second day we took the cart to the port area. We don't really like seeing museums, but we enjoy getting lost in the streets of a new city, and we ate great seafood rice accompanied by green wine at a restaurant - I don't remember its name, but it's almost under the subway bridge. On the third day we went to visit the castles around the port, and when we finished we travelled the 70km to Viana do Castelo, a very pretty village with lovely restaurants.
This is a five-star boutique hotel in the center of Oporto, Portugal. The building itself is from the 1950's with a touch of decadence in the entrance, then inside it's all modern decor, but remains uncluttered. Spacious room with high ceilings and comfortable beds, the bathroom was also quite large. The lobby and the first floor are decorated with Portuguese furniture from Boca do Lobo, a Portuguese company. There is also a very modern lounge/bar, and in regard to breakfast there's an assortment of high-quality Portuguese products. The service was good, very personal and pleasant and they even provided a special welcome gift. There are a lot of restaurants and the hotel is well-connected to the airport.
The Regency Palace Hotel is a five star hotel, very nice and clean facilities and exquisite personal treatment. It has both indoor and outdoor pools with jacuzzi, sauna etc, It also has a tennis and sunbathing area. The office is awesome and the room we stayed in had an apartment-style living room with kitchen, from the balcony it was possible to see some stunning sunsets.
The Vidago Palace hotel, which dates back to the late nineteenth century, is inserted in an enchanting setting. The baths of Vidago (1908) were explored for its springs and medicinal water sources 15 km south of Chaves, Northern Portugal and it occupies 40 hectares of forest. Strolling through the gardens is to enjoy beauty, silence and nature and at the same time be only a fews metres from the modern amenities in the hotel: spa, golf and conference center. It's worth going through if you're right there in the hotel, you can rent course materials, enjoy the spa or just stroll in the garden and its hot springs.
A magnificent resort where we stayed at Christmas 2006. On this occasion we had vast apartment for 4-6 people with two bedrooms. Because of this, small radiators were not sufficient for heating something this size, the first two days we were quite cold. We had to turn on the oven and open the kitchen door to try to do something for a little more heat. The facilities and the cleanliness perfect.
The Quinta do Monte is a five star hotel set in a historic manor surrounded by extensive gardens in the picturesque village of Monte. It stands at the top of a hill, so the only thing nearby is nature, nature, and more nature. If you get restless, there's also an indoor pool, fitness room and Jacuzzi. I loved the precious old wooden floors and colonial decor.
During my trip to the Azores, the fourth day around the island of Terceira in the capital I was staying in Angra do Heroismo, and we decided to stay at the Hotel Do Caracol. It is a great 4 star hotel, situated next to the sea, and the rooms offer fabulous views and better yet there is an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi which are facing the sea. All of the rooms are equipped with a bathroom with hairdryer, air conditioning, safe, minibar, terrace, telephone and satellite TV. The hotel offers outdoor parking, restaurant, and a garden. I personally loved it and I am sure that if I ever return to the Azores islands I will stay in this hotel.
With all the charm of Funchal, this inviting property offers guests the chance to enjoy a cozy stay in one of the most beautiful regions of the country. For people who want to explore the city and its attractions this is an ideal location. The property has been equipped in recent years with modern equipment and it is equipped to meet the needs of all travelers.
We arrived at the Pousada through a website called "Prestige". The normal price exceeded € 120.00 per night, but we got a room for less than € 60.00 per night in September, with continental breakfast buffet included. There was a pool outside, free parking, free WiFi with password from reception. And a terrace with two teak chairs, if you get the attic room, which is not bad for a few days. It is very well positioned for walking to Viseu.
The Girassol Hotel is near the center of Funchal, close to the Lido. It offers friendly service and suites and rooms in the capital of Madeira. It has a gym (extra cost) or you can play darts, it serves breakfast in your room, has a massage service, a pool and babysitting. It has a total of 136 rooms.
An interesting hotel with all amenities located 3 km from the centre of Tavira. They had a deal with breakfast, and we enjoyed two days here at this comfortable hotel. You'll need a car, as it's just outside the city, but it means that you can enjoy more peace and quiet. As it was the second fortnight of September, we were practically alone in the hotel, and could relax in the pool after a strenuous day of touring the Algarve. A great experience!
We stayed at the Hotel Melia Braga because we found a significant discount on a travel website. It's a little far from the centre, about 40 minutes by foot. There's a bus stop nearby, but the last bus goes to town at 20:30. The reception is an open space decorated in white and modern furniture. We stayed in a triple room on the top floor. The views were beautiful. There was a double bed, one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in, and a sofa bed, which was also very comfortable. The room had many details, the lights are controlled by embedded panels on the bedside tables. There was a safe, minibar, plasma TV, hairdryer, shower and tub. The room and bathroom were only separated by glass (impractical if you're sharing the room with friends). The hotel featured a spa, Jacuzzi, indoor pool, Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, cold/hot baths, and jet showers. A real delight. Neither the spa nor the gym are included in the room rate. The staff was helpful and accommodating. The Meliã Braga is an excellent choice, but not suitable for all budgets.
One summer afternoon at the beach in Costa Caparica we were able to see an ancient form of fishing. All the time we were accompanied by the incessant clamor of thousands of gulls and very explanatory video about the results.
The Smart Hotel is a converted mansion in a residential area just 10 minutes walk from the Estoril Casino. Spacious rooms, a small garden that surrounds the house and pool. A couple of important details, have a garage and WIFI at no additional charge.
We were having dinner there one night and loved it. Excellent dishes with very good presentation and very friendly. The price was 20-35 euros depending on if you drink wine and have a dessert. For us it only cost 19 euro with water. It's a place, that although isn't very cheap, is well worth it.
The Luamar Aparthotel is located in the dune beach, just 4 kilometers to the city of Vila Baleira. It has 75 apartments that each come equipped with kitchenette, air conditioning, full bathroom, cable TV, direct dial telephone and terrace. It has a large terrace with a swimming pool for adults and a separate pool for children. The lobby features a bar, the pool has a snack bar, and there is a game room and mini market. It also has free internet access.
