le meridien pyramids hotel & spa
    Hotels in
    Cairo
If you go to the pyramids, it is best that you stay at one of the many hotels that are right next to them. I was surprised to find these historical monuments are really so close to civilisation! The Meridian is one of the closest hotels, with amazing views - without a doubt, the best thing about it. The hotel is pretty good: the buffet is nice, and the rooms are quite spacious and comfortable, and the service is fine. I'd recommend it, although it's not exactly a luxury hotel.

pyramids park resort cairo (formerly intercontinental pyramids)
    Hotels in
    Cairo
While it is quite far from downtown, the hotel offers a lot of amenities, big roos and a breakfast buffet that really is worth its 5 star rating. The rooms are distributed like bungalows and are very big, they have coffee or tea in the rooms also. The pool is very nice and you can choose between many restaurants inside. If it wasn´t for the distance from the center, it would be perfect.

    motonave ramsés of egypt iii

    Luxor
This is one of the 280 motorboats beckoning tourists to the Nile river. It's a five star luxury hotel, but in Spain the star system tends to be very disappointing. In any case I will say that it wasn't a bad place to stay at all. It could probably amount to a 4 star average. All very clean, somewhat dated but very clean, which is important. The cabins were not bad and the cover was very nice (pool included) for sunbathing or a nice breeze. Service very good, eager to please at all times. Given the categories, I think highly recommended, but when you see other (when they do several motorboats docked in parallel and you're forced to go through several to get to land), there are some who are apparently much better.

    Luxor
This is a nice hotel in Luxor, although their rooms were a little old and run down. My room overlooked a public pool that was on the side and you couldn't see the fuss. You get used to it. It has a large entrance with a huge chandelier. The restaurant is also great, but I didn't enjoy the food very much because it was too fried. You felt more at any hotel in Europe than in Egypt, on the ship that is in the same chain you can eat much better.

four seasons cairo at the first residence
    Hotels in
    Cairo
This is, in my opinion, one of the most spectacular hotels I've ever stayed in. It's located right next to the Nile and has a shopping mall connected to it and also a casino. Everything exudes luxury, from the decor all the way down to the smallest detail. There's a spa overlooking the Nile (separate ones for men and women) with jacuzzi, gym, sauna, massage, and more. The rooms are extremely large. Every night, there's a show or belly-dancing in the pool area where all the local sheikhs go. The only problem I can find with this hotel is that even if you've made a reservation, sometimes a sheikh will decide he wants to stay for another week and you'll be out of a room! The restaurant is also a 10/10 in my opinion.

cairo marriott hotel & omar khayyam casino

    Cairo
The Marriott is located in the most stately neighborhood, Zamalek, in Gezira. This hotel was opened with the inauguration of the Suez Canal, and all the famous people that were invited to the opening of the event stayed there. Kings and queens and top celebrities left their mark here, and today it´s one of the hotels in Cairo which attracts the most guests. It´s interesting to know that there is a hotel within the Casino where all the most influential people of modern-day Cairo go. I was lucky enough to stay overnight there several nights, and the truth it´s a very glamorous hotel.

    victoria hotel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
Behind an unwelcoming facade, the Victoria Hotel is an old colonial house in the centre of Cairo that makes a great place to stay. You're right in the heart of downtown Cairo, a lively area filled with shops and businesses. A 15 minute walk will take you to Ramses Station, where trains run to Alexandria and the Nile Valley. Other points of interest are no more than a 15-20 minute taxi ride away, and there are always drivers waiting in front. They shouldn't charge more than 15 LE to go to Islamic Cairo and the Egyptian Museum. The hotel has 92 rooms with TV, telephone and private bathroom. They have air conditioning. Below is a bar and an internet cafe. It's a chain that has hotels in Luxor and Hurghada too.

    Cairo
The Happyton is a small two star hotel located next to the Ramses train station. It has 100 rooms with private bath, air conditioning, satellite TV ... They welcome groups, and it's best to book online. If you arrive at the last minute, prices are a bit more expensive. Below is a restaurant that serves breakfast, and a bar in the lobby. The roof terrace has beautiful views over the city, serves finger food, coffee, and you can smoke a shisha, a water pipe with apple or strawberry flavour. The location is quite central: Tahrir Square is a 20-minute walk (this is where you'll find the Egyptian Museum) and there are metro stops nearby.

    cairo palace hotel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
Cairo Palace Hotel stands in Imad el Din Street in the Downtown district. It is a central neighborhood, a bit old, but very safe, where you have everything at your fingertips, within a taxi journey that shouldn't cost more than 15 LE. Public transport can be a bit tricky to get the hang of, apart from the metro. This is an older hotel in a nineteenth century building, with an Asian feel. Everything is clean and well-maintained, and the rooms are air conditioned and non-smoking. You have a TV and private bathroom. It is a two star hotel with prices starting at 20 euros per night if you book online, or 45 in person. 45 euros seems a little expensive, there are better deals.

    Youth Hostels in
    Cairo
The African Hostel is in the Downtown neighborhood, the old center of Cairo, built in the 30's. It stands in an old building of several floors, but I think people live downstairs. There are several hotels in this area, which has a good reputation for travelers. As such, there is stiff competition, and here you have internet, 24-hour reception, currency exchange, a left luggage service for the day you check out ... and they can help organise your trips and your tickets to the sights. The price of a single room with shared bathroom is $ 13, 19 with private bath, double is between 18 and 22 dollars, the triple and quadruple between 24 and 32 dollars. The rooms are large with high ceilings with ceiling fans, typical of these old buildings.

Auski Camp is a backpacker hotel in Dahab on the coast of the Red Sea. They have a restaurant and a diving school which can organize dives, and many other services. There's wi-fi in the café but not in the rooms. The place is very simple and the cabins with fan cost 30EP per night, and then there are some with full AC that are a little more expensive. The people are nice, but they try to sell trips that are longer than necessary. Breakfast is not included, but costs 2 euros in the hotel restaurant, which is fine and has a sea view. There are people who stay weeks in Dahab just diving and trying to pass the Divemaster test. Auski Camp is usually one of their favorite places.

The seaside Nesima hotel is in the center of Dahab. It's one of the few hotels in Dahab with a pool, but interestingly enough, the pool area opens onto the waterfront so anyone who walks by can see you tanning. The MALEGON is pedestrian, and there are 20 metres between the hotel and the beach. It's a nice hotel with oriental-style rooms. Each has a round roof, AC, and a private bathroom. Some have TV, telephone and Internet. Then there are larger rooms, almost like bungalows. They will come and meet you at the airport, and organize your regional excursions. The double room costs 55 to 65 euros per night, with breakfast, plus dinner is 15 euros per person per night.

The Dolphin Camp Dahab is more or less in the center of this backpacker town. It's a very relaxed place with a friendly staff who rent out simple seaside rooms. Next door there are a lot of restaurants, plus the camp has a restaurant, if you want a little change of scenery, but in general, they are all good. The rooms are simple, and have a private bathroom, AC, and a fridge. They cost 15 euros per night for a single, 20 euros for a double. Then there are cabins near the palm trees, with the same services and prices, you can share between three for 25 euros. The cheapest is a room with a fan, for 6-8 per night. They can help arrange tours and activities, but not pressure you into anything.

It is a simple, clean, and well priced establishment. There are rooms for 2,3 or 4 people, with ventilation, some come with air conditioning. Giza
The Mena House Oberoi Hotel is a luxurious palace in Giza, just in front of the entrance to the ancient site of Giza and the three pyramids. It's not my favourite place to stay because you can't take advantage of Cairo's nightlife, and taxis and transport get a bit complicated. But to spend a day or two there is ideal because you can reach the pyramids in the morning before the site gets filled with tourists. The hotel is a century and a half old. It's in a magnificent lush garden, and everything is classically decorated in English colonial style with a small oriental touch. It has several restaurants and bars inside. Oberoi is a hotel chain. The rooms cost 170 euros/night for a standard garden view and a small balcony. The large rooms cost 210 euros/night, but you can request a view of the pyramids!

The Pyramid View Hotel is in historic Giza near the secondary entrance to the pyramids and the Sphinx. Beware that there is another much more luxurious hotel with the same name. The hotel is a five minute walk from the pyramids, but it's also in a very run down neighborhood which contrasts sharply with the beauty of the Pyramids. There's nothing on the street at night after 10pm, whereas if you stay in Cairo proper, the nightlife is a lot more exciting. The rooms are basic and cost $10 per person per night. There's a Pizza Hut next door which a great terrace for viewing the Pyramids.

It is the best way to visit Egypt and once you have decided to do it on a boat crossing the Nile one must choose the boat very well because there are many types of boats of all colors too. This one is fantastic. The Nile has so many boats that sometimes you must past 6 boats to get out of yours and arrive to the shore. The food is high quality and varied, the rooms are perfect and it doesn´t seem like you are on a boat. The service was a 10, I don´t think I could ask for more.
