It is true that the water is not very clean, but as it a big-city beach, so it's absurd to expect crystal clear water. What makes it special is not the water, it is the incredible atmosphere you can feel. The good thing about it is that it is very accessible, since it is a few minutes away from the metro station.
If you want a more dynamic atmosphere I recommend going during the high season, when there are more activities to do and more people. I like going during the rest of the year, since it is ideal to relax with the sound of the sea and to have a walk.
We visited a little town on the Costa Brava coast in Spain called Calella. It was an adorable traditional Spanish city, with lovely people and a very relaxed vibe. It was about 30/45 min. away from Barcelona on the train... so it isn't far from more popular cities you would want to see while in Spain. The statue was on the boardwalk of the beach there, which was a little chilly and quiet at the time, but I heard is a crazy place filled with people of all ages in the hot summer!
Pretty Crecana beach of Palamos is accessed by a small road, parking has mandatory payment (except if you arrive in the afternoon you no longer have to pay). The beach has a hill where there was an Iberian settlement - declared of cultural interest. The beach is pristine with just a couple of houses.
This beach is below the towers of the castle that strengthens Tossa de Mar. On this beach, there are good bathrooms, good fishing and good views. Tacristalina water is clean. Tossa de Mar is a great place for a holiday or a good weekend.
This part of the beach of Lloret de Mar is a perfect spot to get lost in the vastness of the sea and in the depths of the mountains. It is perfect for a short trip, whether as a family, couple, with friends or alone. The wonderful views provide the peace and tranquility you long for when living in the big city. It's hard to find a beach where the waters are so clear and blue and where you can see the sea from the top of a mountain. The perfect place to visit.
Cambrils is known as a sea destination, and not without goo reason. It has 7 miles of beaches, suitable for all ages. Even children have their place in the so-called oasis, shaded areas and swings without leaving the beach. Cambrils beaches are quiet, without much noise or too many waves, making them an ideal place to unwind and relax.
Just getting here is a splendid journey, but the best part is going for a swim and not seeing anything besides the yellow rocks and the pine tree. It’s well away from the busy Port of Tarraco and there’s nothing to disturb the marvelous views.
Roses has an idyllic location on a bay with clear water, although it has become a center of mass tourism. Innumerable developments and hotels, almost all with amazing views, crowd a single road ending at Puig-Rom viewpoint. However, there are still corners that, although part of the seaside city, provide relaxation. One is the small, secluded Canyelles beach, a slice of blue flag golden sand where, besides swimming, you can take the first lessons in kayaking and windsurfing.
Sant Pol de Mar is a town on the Catalan coast, about an hour by train from Barcelona, when heading north. Specifically, it lies in the Costa del Maresme, just before the start of the Costa Brava, a few km from Blanes. The sand is thick though rocky and the water is clean, it is one of the most beautiful places on the coast. Depending on the area you can find large beaches with beach bars and showers, if you stray from the centre of town, you can find more natural coves frequented by fewer visitors.
